Li Zhang

Li Zhang is a Partner at the Cathay Energy Fund, based in Shanghai, with over 17 years of experience across private equity and wealth management.

Before joining Cathay in 2019, she was at SBCVC (SoftBank VC), leading investments in new energy, automotive, and high-tech industries in China. Earlier in her career, Li worked at Citi in New York, focusing on investments and M&A in the TMT sector — and later established Citi’s Latam China Desk in Brazil, serving Chinese companies across Latin America. Before that, she was at China Mobile Communications Corporation, overseeing investment and asset management across 31 subsidiaries.

She holds an MBA from Georgetown University, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, and a Master of Law from the University of International Business and Economics.
