Maoxiang (John) is a Partner of the Cathay CarTech Fund, based in Shanghai. Before joining Cathay in 2017, he was Executive Director of Corporate Development at Lear Asia.

John brings over 15 years of automotive experience across both OEMs and components, with a track record spanning M&A, business development, strategic planning, and partnerships. He has represented Lear, Valeo, General Motors, and TRW, closing 15+ deals across joint ventures, strategic cooperations, acquisitions, and buyouts.

Key highlights include: at Lear, completing the restructuring between BAI and BHAP alongside numerous buyout projects; at Valeo, two shareholding restructuring projects and multiple buyouts; and at General Motors, serving as a core team member on the GM China restructuring — executing the GM-SAIC India Project, forming the FAW-GM commercial vehicle JV, and completing the SGMW 10% share buyout.

John holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance and International Business from Indiana University (Kelley School of Business) and an MBA in Finance from Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.
