Matthieu Van Der Elst

Matthieu leads Cathay Innovation’s sustainability and impact initiatives from Paris, guiding the firm and its portfolio companies in integrating ESG strategies across Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. He brings extensive experience in venture capital and corporate innovation, dedicated to financing technologies that shape tomorrow’s world.

Before Cathay Innovation, Matthieu was CEO of Michelin Ventures, the Michelin Group’s venture arm, where he supported startups developing sustainable technologies and business models in materials and mobility. He also held strategy and innovation roles across Michelin’s global operations and spent over a decade consulting with PwC and WPP.

By harnessing his expertise in climate tech, new materials, energy, and mobility, Matthieu helps translate visionary ideas into measurable impact. He graduated from the ISC Business School in Paris.
Beyond the office, he enjoys the thrill of rugby and the tranquility of fishing.
